Director Kuo-Nan Liou has been awarded The Carl-Gustaf Rossby Research Medal, the highest award from the American Meteorological Society (AMS), which recognizes researchers “For intellectual leadership and seminal contributions to improving the theory and application of atmospheric radiative transfer and its interactions with clouds and aerosols.”

In 2013, Director Liou received the Roger Revelle Medal, the highest award in atmospheric sciences from the American Geophysical Union (AGU), which recognized those for “outstanding contributions in atmospheric sciences, atmosphere-ocean coupling, atmosphere-land coupling, biogeochemical cycles, climate or related aspects of the Earth system.”

Previous recipients of both medals include James Holton, John M. Wallace, Robert Dickinson, Syukuo Manabe, and Edward Lorenz.
